Rotating Hot Air Balloon Centerpiece
& Glowing Shooting Star Centerpiece

Crafty Mart Creative Catapult Centerpieces Donation, 2022

Craft supplies, cardboard, felt, hot glue, yarn, found objects - Crochet by Ashleigh Byrer

Donated*

Was super fun to make these tactile interactive pieces. A wooden crank on the side of the hot air balloons makes them spin around the sky, and large crocheted wire twists and bends as the shooting star falls to earth - plus both light up! Was fun to experiment, even more fun to see how much the winners loved the artwork!

The hot air balloons are plastic craft lightbulb containers with the ends cut off and then painted interiorly, then a flickering tea light candle was placed at the bottom. The cut off ends of the lightbulb and their plastic cap were wrapped with jute to become the baskets. Wooden dowel rods are arranged inside the bottom piece in a gear like fashion so that when it is cranked the above rotates - it wasn't perfect it gets a bit stuck but it first time making something like this.

The star is a vintage ruffled glass bowl with a felted cardboard star landing in it. Coming out of the back are multiple crocheted wire pieces that were curled to look like the tails of a comet.
